We love our pals at ArtPrize. We love what the world’s largest public art competition does to our city. We love that they’ve been so supportive of so many of our endeavors. We love the way they've changed the landscape of what's possible in Western Michigan.
So with all that love in the air, of course we jumped at the opportunity to lend hand by throwing their annual fundraising gala - One Wild Night.
The location was close to ideal. Our collaborators (like designer Joey Ruiter and chef Steve Couch) were inspiring. And our prescribed theme of "juxtaposition and contrast" virtually ensured interesting aesthetics.
So the thing kind of ran itself then, right?
Let's just say we kept ourselves busy.
Joey's Reboot Buggy roared in the entryway while all the while our favorite yogis Mali & Ashley from AM Yoga shared a moment of zen. DJ Adrian Butler floated on a balloon island bumping out sounds as a suspended steel boat gently dotted the pristine pool nearby. Water skiers practiced their formations. Fire dancers lit up the dance floor. Champagne sabers swung through the summer air. We had spring-footed party hypers, virtual reality painting, an incredible soprano from the GR Opera, locally grown grilled vegetables creatively displayed in flowerbeds, and a donut cake that still triggers mouth watering two months later. It all added up to our friends from ArtPrize having their biggest gala crowd yet and all of us having...well, having one wild night.
